Jaro and his bike flew to Spain, and are staying in the town of Playa Santiago, on the island of La Gomera. Here is his blog:
Until the middle of January, I was stuck in Montreal. Luggage has been packed since early November, but still no visa from Spain, so everything delayed this year. My apartment was pre-paid, so I was paying for an empty place.
The airfare was another thing that was affected by the long delay in obtaining the Spanish visa - I booked on the day I got the visa and left the next day. The airfare was just over $1000 Canadian, with my bike, and with a seat with extra room.
Then a $40€ taxi fare from the port to Playa Santiago. The new digs are very nice! The apartment is fairly large, almost ground level, in a gated complex with a pool in the middle. The rent is CAD $60/day and includes cable, wifi and a small TV. A laundry machine is installed in the kitchen, along with a small fridge. Some cooking items were missing, so I requested those. Less than 5 minute walk to the coast and supermarket.
Hardly any traffic on the roads here - they are good quality and VERY hilly - endless switchbacks to get anywhere. Also, there are tunnels on some roads. Very quiet town -- nothing like Tenerife's coastal tourist resorts.
